LinkedIn is an innovative company within the informational age, focused on creating opportunities for people within the global workforce through communication processes that allow people to share knowledge and connect through a virtual platform. This global language is imperative to LinkedIn’s core values of operations, intending the workspace to help foster an even greater sense of team spirit in the new office environment: through individualized neighborhoods, lined with a variety of shared collaboration, media and social break outs.
The vision is to create a place that embodies a harmonious balance between the authenticity and energy of the machine age (grounded by the landmark symbol of the host building – The Empire State Building) and the city in which this landmark building is embedded in with the global connectivity and knowledge sharing of the informational age.
Comprising the entire third-floor, the 90,000 sq.ft, the LEED-Gold interior includes a central arrival area, A/V broadcasting studio, conference center, 240-person workspace, and café with a full-service kitchen and adjacent serveries. As the initial contact to the vertical campus many stories above. Upon entry members, candidates, visitors and employees are directed through multiple of wayfinding tools iconic to the energy of NYC. Colors, textures and layered circulation guide people through the various neighborhoods in the workspace and arrival area to the large full-service café on the remaining half of the third floor. As a break out space from the vertical campus and the energized city around – the dinning area draws inspiration from a series of unique parks to create an outdoor working & dining experience within the Empire State Building, allowing for various interactions within one multifunctional space, creating a sense of community for LinkedIn’s 1,350 New York employees.
